*grrr* what's this biz of giving me lab results on paper? I always ask for them electronically before the lab tech gives them to me, and she ALWAYS insists on leaving me a hardcopy instead, and I end up having to go over personally and get in on a disk when it's already in a table and it would be SOOO EASY to just email it to me in the first place!!! and now the she's on holiday for a week. blargh.

Friday Five
1. Do you like to shop? Why or why not?
I do if it's not something I really need rightaway and feel rushed about getting.
2. What was the last thing you purchased?
Four hours ago I bought two books (presents). The first is called "The Philosophy Gym" (by Stephen Law), and the second is "Nature via Nurture" (by Matt Ridley).
3. Do you prefer shopping online or at an actual store? Why?
Actual! You can't skim read, or tell how something will really fit, smell, or feel online.
4. Did you get an allowance as a child? How much was it?
It went from 20 cents a week up to like $5 a week over many many years.
5. What was the last thing you regret purchasing?
Lunch yesterday? (A rather bland vegetable pastie).

"DNA Puzzle of Mother Made of Two Women
By Caroline Gammell, PA News
A mother of three has discovered she is not the biological parent of two of her naturally conceived sons and is in fact made up of two women, it emerged today.
Scientists came to the extraordinary conclusion that the 52-year-old was formed from two non-identical twin girl embryos which fused into a single person in her mother’s womb.

Yes, beach good. When wading in, water so cold your ankles and feet actually hurt. Somehow though, when you finally make yourself dive in, it's not *too* bad. Still cold, but ankles and feet stop actually hurting. Beach got very very packed by 14ish, last swim, and we left about 15:00.
Sat evening, we all met up again (and I got The Bavarian to come and also dragged Hyper out - he was still totally seedy after the previous night and having to work outside in the heat that day) and went and checked out a Spanish type street festival. Johnson St, a pretty major street off Brunswick was closed off. There were salsa bands on a large stage, heaps of food stalls and flashy light stalls and jewellry stalls and sunglass stalls, etc., plus bumper cars, a street packed with people, and a carnival atmosphere. Went and hung out at the Laundry a little, then a bar called the Black Pearl where we bumped into some of Smiley's friends. Didn't stay too late, left just before 2, and managed to catch a tram! Totally thought they stopped at like 1 (everyone else was surprised I managed to get one at that time too).

Wickend
Friday we finally hit 30 degrees. I sat out on the Hippy Cafe balcony and did some reading. Had major hayfever attack. Took many many drugs, none of which helped. Head quite muzzy by time I got home. Had organized to meet WryGuy at Belgian Beer Cafe for going away drinks (have I mentioned he's moving back with parents?). Organized the housemates, but then spoke to WryGuy on phone, and there was much back and forthing about it being too crowded and alternative venues and I was in no state to make decisions. Left a note for Hyper who was running errands. But eventually we ended up at the BBC anyway, but there was a half hour wait for drinks, so we went to a nearby pub. I'd forgotten I'd left that note for Hyper. Somehow he managed to track us down anyway - with mobileness, this didn't really require great skill - but suspect he may have been annoyed with me. Despite this, he made me have shots with him and we got mightily trashed. He told me his entire family history - can't recall any of it now. The other housemates plead tiredness, but I dragged Hyper out to meet D&K&B, and K had her friend L over from The West. We went to Robot, and Hyper got kept out by the bouncer for being too trashed - HA! was very funny. Don't think it was too humiliating since there were like heaps of people sitting at tables outside right there anyway, and he just hung out while I went in and collected everyone. Then over to F4 to see some Brazilian d'n'b DJ, but me and Hyper had an early start the next day and we so shouldn't have paid way too much to go in and only see the beginning of this guy's set (esp. since Hyper is totally broke at the moment - am feeling a bit guilty about it). So we left about 2:00ish.
Got up at 8am Saturday. Picked up at 8:30 by P (Smiley henceforth, an incessantly smiley Brit), had a really good conversation with him on our way down to the south coast. Met up with L&E (unnaturally fit looking in both senses) &S&Y and a guy S&L work with, G. Beach stifling. Water *freeezing*. Together, *perfect*!

*blrgh*
throat v. sore this morning.
nose running all day.
have taken a million cold'n'flu tablets but they're not helping - does that mean it's not a cold or flu?
Hm - have bought breakfast, lunch and dinner today. The chicken in the Thai Green Chicken Curry I'm currently eating seems to have been dyed an unnatural and unappetizing irish moss green.

Had crap sleep last night. Suspect it was the 4 coffees yesterday rather than the 13 hours sleep the night before. Despite crap sleep, am quite awake now. Suspect it may be the 4 coffees I've just had.

Olfactory Oddness
In other news:
Darn, I'm sway-backed too (see here for diagnostic test). I always thought I was reasonably flexible :(

Leo: (July 23—Aug. 22)
Half the battle is knowing when to give up. This is a special new saying the stars coined with just you in mind.
Maybe I should be a Leo.
And I always like their "What do you think?" people's poll. It's always so true and informative.
-ah- beautiful beautiful day. 27C max. there must be something i need to go outside for... (already went and got some lunch).

hrm- are all these people (not you e_e) emailing me about work because they know it's Cup Day and think I won't be in? Am probably ascribing too much consideration to them... :P
Forgot public holiday here meant Sunday public transport timetable.
Darn - just spilled coffee on diary.
Happy Cup Day everyone!

I think the time from about 13:30 to 15:00 passes particularly fast because although I *think* of it as lunchtime, I'm usually not hungry yet. I'm also hanging out for my last coffee of the day (I'm not allowed coffee after 15:00, or I won't be able to sleep that night). But for some reason I think I shouldn't have my last coffee until after lunch. So usually when it hits 15:00, my reaction is: "D'OH! I've missed the window for my last coffee! Where's the time gone? Maybe it's time for lunch...". Hmmm - drug addiction really does play with your perception of time and sense of reality!
Friday night went to a Halloween Party with The Bavarian and Hyper. Drank too much. Bonded. Danced. Talked.
Leisurely Saturday, fixed yet another rip in the right knee of my jeans. Decided I really need another pair of jeans. Took Loud to go try on those jeans at Pervert again, which I thought were perfect except for the price tag. Discovered they weren't so perfect - how was I not bothered by those dumb fake wear bits before? Gave up on jeans, Loud managed to find a dress. Stopped for coffee and blueberry crumble, an extensive browse through Borders, then home.
Sat night, bonded with The Bavarian and Hyper *again*. Took them to the party of a girl from work. She had nine Irish geezers staying in her living room (friends of her housemate). So they were all watching the rugby. Hyper got some good political discussion in with a couple of Americans. Didn't stay too late. Thought about going out after, but had a good sleep instead.
Sunday, went to a Hawaiian themed street party right across the road from a friends house. Stopped in a couple of op-shops on my way over to see if I could pick up a cheap Hawaiian shirt. But (quelle surprise!) there were none to be seen! When we (me and K&L&E&S) got to the party, a potential explanation presented itself, with said shirts comprising a large part of the decorations for the party. Was baskingly sunny weather. They had an "all you can eat" bbq for $2! Plus a 60's-ish band, and a hula-hoop competition. Was good. Then we went and lazed in the park for a bit.
Sun night, got a vid out with The Bavarian. Poss my first vid since moving here? "Best in show". Was reasonably amusing.
how can it be Monday again already? where did the weekend go?! it feels like i hardly did anything :P
